Claudia Mae Knight was born on May 29, 1937, in Carrollton, Mississippi to James and Pearl Palmer with two sisters, Jean (McAdoo) and Verle (Hill). On November 25, 2002, Claudia married Reginald Knight at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. They have resided in Pahrump since the mid-1990’s. Claudia attended high school in Memphis, Tennessee and following her dream to become a teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She went on to teach high school business classes in Michigan, while earning her Master’s Degree from Wayne State University and her Master Teacher Specialist Degree from Oakland University. Throughout her life, Claudia was given many tributes for her teaching, leadership in school improvements and activities in both Michigan and Pahrump, including the Michigan Business Education Association, Macomb Michigan Art Council, Disabled American Veterans, and Girl Scouts of America. She was also a concerned citizen and active with the National Council of Negro Women for 25 years. In 2008, on Martin Luther King’s ‘Bay, Claudia and her mother were recognized for marching with Dr. King in Chicago to integrate various city agencies. Claudia said this was something that stayed with her throughout her life. Beyond her civic involvement, Claudia had two other passions she enjoyed, singing and RVing. Graciously, she shared her beautiful voice with us throughout her life, including the Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church choir. As members of the Las Vegas Rolling Wheels Club, she and Reggie loved touring the United States in their motorhome while visiting family and friends. Claudia passed away peacefully at her home on December 25, 2021 with her loving husband of 29 years Reggie, by her side. She was 84. Claudia is survived by her husband, Reggie, daughter, Debra Palmer, step-children, Tania Knight, Michelle Desselle, Durrell Knight, Darlette Clark, and Angel Knight, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as her extended family and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-daughter, Gwen Alaman. Claudia’s courage, strength, and determination will be greatly missed. Homecoming Celebration of Life Service for Claudia will be held at Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church. 1300 East Highway 372, Pahrump, NV on Saturday January 8 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
